Imaging Operations Manager
BCR – the nation’s oldest and most established multi-state library cooperative – is seeking an experienced manager to oversee BCR’s imaging operations. This newly created position requires a bachelor’s degree, 5 years experience managing large-scale, complex technology-based projects and 3 years of supervisory experience. The successful candidate must have experience designing and documenting workflow processes, managing significant numbers of part-time staff, working knowledge of digital imaging and associated metadata, and strong oral and written communications skills.
BCR’s Digital and Preservation Services Department helps archives, libraries, museums and historical societies keep pace with best practices in digitization and preservation by providing them with knowledge and resources that supplement their staff.
Responsibilities:
The Imaging Operations Manager will manage imaging operations; hire, train and supervise imaging staff; and serve as a liaison with both customers and business partners. The manager also will be responsible for planning for program growth; developing and maintaining documentation; developing and monitoring the program budget; working with the Director of Digital and Preservation Services to create project plans and develop and monitor goals; and identifying and solving problems related to imaging and troubleshooting equipment.
Ability to work flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, may be needed at times.
Qualifications:
The position requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years experience managing large-scale, complex, technology-based projects involving multiple organizations.
Also required:
- A minimum three years experience scheduling and managing staff, including part-time, nonprofessional employees
- Experience designing workflow procedures and training staff on procedures
- Experience in technical writing and documentation
- Basic knowledge of metadata associated with content of all types
- Knowledge of data loading and crosswalking of different metadata structures
- Knowledge of general digitization and scanning principles
- Proficient with image capture equipment
Desirable:
- Experience working in a library or cultural heritage institution environment
- Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited institution or in a related field
Compensation:
