OCLC Goes Forward with netLibrary PurchaseAURORA, CO, FEBRUARY 5, 2002 - It's official! NetLibrary has been acquired by OCLC. BCR has been assured that the situation has stabilized, and we can now go forward with the BCR netLibrary eBook Public Library (Ready Reference) Collection offering. The BCR netLibrary eBook collection was designed and focused on the needs of public libraries. However, there has been extensive participation by the K-12 school community and the academic community because a ready reference collection is useful to all libraries. Sign-ups will be cumulated, and the initial title list will be purchased from netLibrary (assuming the commitments have been received) before March 31. We have about 4/5ths of the commitments needed already. Please sign-up as soon as possible. We would like to make our purchase as soon as BCR receives enough commitments for the core collection. Additional commitments will be used to expand the collection at no additional cost to the participating libraries already on board. The title list (with an analysis) is posted on the BCR Web site at: www.bcr.org/reference/Netlibrary/NL-PL-Titlelist.html. The initial full-text title list is 3,431 titles (all nonfiction), and the cost varies by the size of the patron population served. | |
