BCR Introduces New Quarterly Training Calendar

AURORA, CO, November 21, 2003 — BCR has released a new quarterly calendar of classes. The BCR Workshop Calendar debuted this month with listings of all upcoming classes scheduled in BCR's member states during the winter season, December 2003 through February 2004. The eight-page calendar lists both classroom and online workshops.

The new calendar has been designed to be user friendly, providing both an index of workshops by category and monthly calendars with classes listed by date and location. This compact catalog of classes is cost-effective, with lower printing and mailing costs. It is also ecologically sound, printed on fewer pages than BCR's previous workshop booklet and on recycled paper, as is BCR's Action for Libraries newsletter.

While this new quarterly calendar provides BCR members with the basics of upcoming classes in a readily available print listing, the comprehensive Web catalog, posted on the "Workshops and Training" section of BCR Online (www.bcr.org), still provides detailed descriptions of each workshop. BCR's online workshop registration form and updated training information including added and cancelled classes and other changes in the workshop schedule also are available on BCR's Web site, as are BCR's Web-based workshops, which are accessed from the "Distance Learning" section.

We invite comments concerning this latest effort, as BCR continues to strive to better communicate with staff at our member libraries, all the time working to keep costs low, keep the environment in mind and make use of the latest in information technology. Please contact BCR's Sharon Hoffhines (shoffhin@bcr.org) or Brandie Baumann (bbaumann@bcr.org) with your ideas, questions and concerns.

BCR, a multistate library service nonprofit, helps member libraries acquire, implement and manage automated information services. BCR provides the latest in information and technology training including Web-based workshops; access, training and support for OCLC services; discounts on reference databases, electronic books, library-related software and hardware; consulting; online database publishing; and custom cataloging. BCR's member states are Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. All libraries in these states are BCR members and can take advantage of the many benefits BCR has to offer.
