BCR Partners with Collaborative Digitization ProgramAURORA, COLO, August 20, 2004 — The Bibliographical Center for Research (BCR), a nonprofit, multistate library cooperative serving more than 1,000 member libraries mostly throughout the western U.S., is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Collaborative Digitization Program (CDP). The Collaborative Digitization Program (formerly known as the Colorado Digitization Project) is a collaborative initiative involving libraries, archives, historical societies and museums also in the western U.S. The CDP has gained a national reputation for its high-quality training, articulation of digitization "best practices" and metatdata tools. Under the new partnership BCR will offer CDP digitization workshops as part of its regular BCR training program. This new alliance will allow the Collaborative Digitization Program to benefit from BCR's assistance in promoting and providing an infrastructure for CDP's digitization workshops, while CDP contributes the trainers and expertise. The training will offer BCR member libraries instruction not only in digital imaging and the range of issues associated with digitizing primary source materials, but will also provide information on Dublin Core metadata, digital audio and teaching with digitized primary sources. "Libraries throughout the BCR region will benefit tremendously from BCR's new partnership with the CDP," said BCR Executive Director David Brunell. "Our member libraries are looking at digitization as a way to provide more extensive access to materials in their collections. The CDP, with its demonstrated expertise, can provide library staff with the knowledge they need at an affordable cost." "We look forward to working with BCR in expanding the reach of our digitization workshops," said CDP Operations Coordinator Richard Urban. "BCR with its background and experience in library-related training can assist CDP staff in connecting with those libraries that will most benefit from our services." BCR, a multistate library service nonprofit, helps member l ibraries acquire, implement and manage automated information services. BCR provides the latest in information and technology training including Web-based workshops; access, training and support for OCLC services; discounts on reference databases, electronic books, library-related software and hardware; consulting; online database publishing; and custom cataloging. BCR's member states are Alaska, Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. All libraries in these states are BCR members and can take advantage of the many benefits BCR has to offer. BCR Publications | BCR News Releases | About BCR Comments to:
