The sites included in the Sterling Virtual Tour were selected based on their historic integrity, unique architectural style, and their ability to show what Sterling looked like in it's early years. Several of the buildings are on the grounds of the Overland Trails Museum and are open to the public. Other buildings document the commercial, religious and private lives of Sterling's residents. Significant structures included in the tour, such as beet factories and barns, illustrate Sterling's place as an agricultural center for northeastern Colorado.
The Sterling Virtual Tour provides greater access for researchers, students, teachers, genealogists and community members interested in the architecture and history of Sterling.
