Colorado Digitization Project: In Your Backyard

Menu

Building on the concept of creating communities, Colorado Digitization Project: In Your Backyard built on the successes of the original Beyond Citations grant to develop local collections of digitized resources under a statewide initiative.  Through the collaborative efforts of libraries, museums, historical societies and archives, unique resources and special collections were digitized at regionally located scanning centers to create “local communities” of digital information.

In addition to providing scanning centers, a training program for practitioners on the various aspects of digitization projects was created under this grant.  Subgrants were made to partnerships of institutions that included at least one library and one cultural heritage institution.  Grantees were required to digitize using the standards/guidelines for scanning, metadata, and copyright compliance developed under Beyond Citations.  All of the participants contributed their metadata to the Colorado Digitization Project Union Catalog, which later became Heritage Colorado.  Teachers from K12 schools were trained to use digital resources in support of Colorado educational content standards.
