Module 5: Searching the Heritage West Database

Practice your searching skills:
- Identify a topic or theme that interests you.
- Browse the list of Heritage West Categories. Explore the subcategories of categories that interest you as well as the list of Participating Institutions to get a general feel for the scope of Heritage West.
- Searching by keyword:
- Brainstorm keywords that you could use to search for further information about your topic.
- Choose five of these terms to use to 'get to know' Heritage West.
- Perform the searches on the Heritage West Database.
- Keep track of the searches using the 'History' feature.
- Use the 'Add to My List' feature to keep track of any image that you might want to use in the future.
- Use the 'View List' and then the 'Email' feature to email yourself a list of these images.
- Write a brief overview (paragraph) of a potential lesson or activity that you want to develop using the images that you found.
- A searching handout is also available to print off as a reference for searching Heritage West.
