Digital Preservation for Digital Collaboratives Workshop
One of the significant barriers to the ability of collaborative digital initiatives to develop a long-term preservation program is a lack of educational opportunities. To address this need for education and training, BCR (Bibliographical Center for Research) has designed a workshop, Digital Preservation for Digital Collaboratives, which will be offered in 2010.
Using CRL/OCLC Trustworthy Repositories Audit and Certification: Criteria and Checklist (TRAC) as its foundation, the three-day workshop will provide an introduction to digital preservation before focusing on planning, assessment and digital preservation solutions. BCR will offer additional training and support after the workshop, enabling the collaboratives to complete their preservation plans, which may serve as models for other organizations in the field.
By increasing the number of digital collaboratives prepared to undertake the long-term accessibility of digital collections, the workshops will benefit cultural repositories—small and medium-sized libraries, museums, historical societies and archives—that lack the resources to develop their own digital preservation program.
Cost is $150 per individual registration and $125 per member of a registered collaborative team. The fee covers the online and in-person sessions as well as workshop materials and post-workshop online activities.
