OCLC Update
By Regan W. Harper
CONTENTdm Support Now Password Protected
On December 1, DiMeMa password protected its User Support Center (USC) for CONTENTdm. Password-
protecting the USC allows DiMeMa to provide a more secure interface for software downloads, tutorials, product
announcements and advanced documentation. Additional documentation will be added in the coming weeks and
months, and DiMeMa will introduce a knowledge base of commonly asked support questions and answers about
CONTENTdm.
The new User Support Center Web site is located at www.contentdm.com/USC and may be accessed from
anywhere on the CONTENTdm Web site (www.contentdm.com/) by selecting Users in the top navigation bar.
First time visitors must register and create a personal account. To do this, go to www.contentdm.com/USC/ and
select Register Now and then enter an Organization ID. Current CONTENTdm users have been sent their
respective Organization IDs. Questions about logging in may be sent to usc@dimema.com.

OCLC CIP Upgrade Unit Moving
Blackwell's Book Services is consolidating its U.S. warehouse facilities in Blackwood, New Jersey. This means
that the Academic Book Center warehouse in Portland, Oregon, where the OCLC CIP (Cataloging in
Publication) Upgrade Service has been located since 1995, is closing the end of December. The OCLC CIP
Upgrade Service is scheduled to reopen no later than February 2, 2004, at the New Jersey facility. The current
manager of the OCLC CIP Upgrade Service, Morgan McCune, is moving along with the operation, so that
continuity of quality and work standards will be maintained.
For PromptCat libraries this means that less CIP will be upgraded for new titles in January. If you receive CIP
(encoding level 8 records) in your PromptCat files, you may see a slight increase in January. Or, if you do not
receive CIP as part of your PromptCat files, you may see a few less titles delivered, as the CIP has not yet been
upgraded. OCLC is confident these numbers will be small, since OCLC will continue to receive and load files of
upgrades from Yankee and Ingram during this time.
Should you have questions or concerns about CIP, contact Linda Gonzalez
(lgonzale@bcr.org) at BCR.
