Importing and Exporting Favorites in MS Explorer

Many users of Microsoft's Internet Explorer have been frustrated over the incompatibility of the browser's Favorites list with Netscape's Bookmarks. With just a 50kb download this can be overcome. Microsoft has recently released the Import/Export Favorites Tool. No official documentation is available, but the program is still quite useful.

Download www.microsoft.com/msdownload /ieplatform/favtool/favtool.asp. When you run the program, you will see the following screen:

If you would like to import your Netscape bookmarks into your Internet Explorer Favorites folder, select Import Bookmarks into Favorites. Select your Netscape Bookmark file on your hard drive and click Open. You may also use this function to import any other HTML file, as you can do with File|Import in Netscape's Bookmark window.

Save Favorites as Bookmarks also allows you to convert your Internet Explorer Favorites into an HTML file. One word of warning -- if you save your Favorites as bookmark.htm in the same folder as your Netscape Bookmarks, you will overwrite and loose all your current Bookmarks. Best suggestion: save the new HTML file on your desktop and then use the Netscape Bookmark import function to append the new file to your existing Bookmarks.
