PBS Broadcasting Free Satellite
Teleconferences on Literacy

PBS Adult Learning Satellite Service, in partnership with LiteracyLink, is providing three free live satellite teleconferences on literacy in the spring of 1999. Although the broadcasts are targeted at teachers, librarians may find portions useful.

PBS will broadcast a two-part literacy series, Literacy and Learning Disabilities, in February and March, each from 2-4 p.m., Eastern Time. They are:

The third free literacy video, "Achieving Learner Goals: Video Technology in Adult Education," will be broadcast April 29, 1999, from 2-4 p.m., Eastern Time. In this event experts, instructors and learners will discuss the value and strength of using video to improve adult literacy instruction and learning. Case studies will be presented. Viewers also will get a first look at "Workplace Essential Skills," a new PBS LiteracyLink series, and other video-based products.

Although PBS Adult Learning Satellite System is switching to digital transmissions for most of its program feeds, for the coming academic year all ALS live events, including these, will be transmitted in both digital and analog on C-band and KU-band.

LiteracyLink is a joint initiative funded by the U.S.
