New Databases on OCLC FirstSearch

Two databases have been added to the OCLC FirstSearch service Facts on File and Ethnic NewsWatch.

FirstSearch Now Trilingual

OCLC has released French and Spanish language interfaces for the OCLC FirstSearch services, the first non-English interfaces offered for FirstSearch. Users can choose an English, French or Spanish interface and all screens appear in the language selected. The content of the French and Spanish screens is identical to the English version. The databases, however, are not translated.

EBSCO Not A FirstSearch Document Supplier

EBSCO Document Services no longer is participating as a document supplier for articles cited in the OCLC FirstSearch service. If you have questions about articles requested, please contact EBSCO directly at (800) 473-4362, firstsearch@ebscodoc.com or by fax at (650) 259-5005.

New from OCLC ECO

In September, OCLC linked approximately 60 Electronic Collections Online articles, indexed in the H.W. Wilson database Social Sciences Absracts, to records in that database. FirstSearch web users with access to Social Sciences Abstracts and a subscription to any of the linked ECO journals will be able to retrieve full-text articles directly from records in Social Sciences Abstracts, which indexes international, English-language periodicals in sociology, anthropology, geography, economics, politcal science and law.

SilverPlatter PsycLIT, ClinPsyc Discounts Dropped

As of September 1, new subscribers to SilverPlatter's PsycLIT or ClinPSYC databases are no longer able to get a print discount. Current subscribers are able to receive the discount for renewals expiring before December 31, but after January 1, 1999, renewal orders also will not have a print discount. No early renewals will be taken.

The American Psychological Association (APA) also has eliminated print and PsycLIT credits for PsycINFO subscribers. The APA portion of PsycINFO quotes will be the regular flat fee multiplied by the institution's or consortium's number of site-equivalents.
