BCR Signs Agreement to Sell
Clio ILL Management Software

By Rosario Garza

BCR and Perkins & Associates have signed a marketing agreement that allows BCR to sell Clio, an interlibrary loan management software package, to BCR member libraries. Clio helps libraries in their day-to-day ILL and collection development operations in various ways: tracking copyright compliance, invoicing, tracking payments, providing titles requested reports, etc.

Larry Perkins of Perkins & Associates, developer of Clio software, answers questions about his product at BCR's ILL Statistics Fair.

Clio can be used with OCLC's Passport for Windows or Interlibrary Loan Micro Enhancer software. OCLC users download the various message file categories into Clio, which then adds the new information to its local database. Because of its ability to interface with OCLC and the ILL message file, Clio's local database can be easily and quickly updated, allowing libraries to keep track of their ILL traffic over long periods of time with little or no manual input of data.

Non-OCLC users can also use Clio to maintain information on their ILL borrowing and lending. Although non-OCLC users may need to do more manual inputting, the software can be used to print ILL borrowing requests and overdue notices.

Clio has several built-in reports: Copyright Compliance, Copyright Status, Filled/Unfilled, Method Shipped/Received. Users can also create their own customized reports. Clio was developed using Micro- soft Access 2.0.

Users who have Microsoft Access software can link to the Clio database and create tailored reports using Access' many features. Clio's export to Excel feature will create an Excel spreadsheet from the results of any search.

Minimal system requirements needed to use Clio are: 486 (66 MHz) processor, 16MB of memory, Windows 3.1 or later, SVGA display adapter. The software will run under windows for Workgroups or Windows NT.

Although the software was developed using Microsoft Access, users are not required to have Access software to run Clio.

Users who purchase Clio through BCR will receive a 5 percent discount off the purchase price. The cost for the software is based on the number of ILL transactions a library has per year. The price includes a license to install Clio on an unlimited number of workstations at one site, and upgrades are free for one year.

Transactions Per Year    Price
Less than 10,000$500
10,000 - 20,000$1,000
20,000 - 30,000$1,500
More than 30,000$2,000

A SAVEIT Data Conversion component is also available.
