Users may download the new software at www.oclc.org/oclc/menu/suite/index.htm by
selecting the Download Software option. A valid OCLC authorization number is
required. The software is also available on a CD-ROM that may be ordered from the
same web page or by contacting BCR. There is no charge for the OCLC Access
Suite.
OCLC Cataloging Micro Enhancer for Windows 1.10 and OCLC CJK Software 3.00
were released in January and have been available on the OCLC web site. Libraries
do not need to download or order new copies if they already have these versions.
Because contents notes are often lengthy and involved, it is easy to make typographical
mistakes. If you find a typographical mistake in a contents note, just lock the record,
correct the mistake and replace the record. If your library's OCLC symbol does not
already appear in the 040 field, a credit will be issued. Refer to Chapter 6 in the
Cataloging User Guide, 2nd edition, for details on locking and replacing records.
OCLC Access Suite 2.0 Released
OCLC Access Suite, version 2.0, is now available. Included in version 2.0 are
updated versions of the OCLC Cataloging Micro Enhancer for Windows 1.10 and
OCLC CJK Software 3.00, the new Searching WorldCat: An OCLC Tutorial 1.00,
Dewey Cutter Macro for Passport for Windows and the current versions of Passport
for Windows 1.10a, OCLC ILL Micro Enhancer for Windows 1.00 and OCLC
Cataloging Label Program 1.10.
Contents Note Editing Capability Enhanced
Users can now correct existing contents notes in bibliographic records in WorldCat and
accrue a Database Enrichment credit for their libraries. OCLC users with an
authorization level of full and higher are now able to lock and replace records to edit
existing contents notes (field 505).
Records with New Form Subdivision Being Distributed
The Library of Congress has started to distribute bibliographic records with the new $v
(form) subdivision coding. See the following OCLC records for examples: #40868830
(LCCN 98-226492), #40869728 (LCCN 99-18894) and #40869738 (LCCN 99-19268).
For examples of the new topical subdivision (180) and form subdivision (185)
authority records, see ARN 4928250 (sh99-1161): "Abbreviations" as topical
subdivision, ARN 4928254 (sh99-1165): "Abbreviations" as form subdivision; and
ARN 4928248 (sh99-1159): "Electronic information resources" as topical subdivision.
