Automated Sorting of Netscape Bookmarks
Netscape provides a variety of ways to
catagorize your bookmarks to help you return to URLs you like. The methods
available to you depend on the version of Netscape you use to browse the World Wide
Web.
Navigator 3.x
In this version of Navigator it is possible to sort your bookmarks automatically. In your
bookmark window select Item|Sort bookmarks. This will alphabetically sort all of your
bookmarks, folders and anything else in your Bookmarks file. Unfortunately there is no way
to sort a particular folder or group of bookmarks. This is an all or nothing command.
Communicator 4.x
Navigator 4.x gives you significantly different choices for sorting bookmarks than
version 3.x. In the bookmark window select View. You are then given four choices:
 |
By Name
This does not alphabetize your bookmarks. This will restore your bookmarks
to how they appeared before you selected any of the other three choices.
By Location
This method alphabetizes your bookmarks (within folders) based on the
bookmark's URL.
By Created On
This option sorts your bookmarks based on the date/time they were created.
By Last Visited
This option sorts your bookmarks based on the date/time when the site was last
visited.
|
Communicator 4.x has no option to alphabetize your bookmarks by name as in version
3.x. If you would like your bookmarks sorted alphabetically you must do it manually.
If you have selected any choice other than By Name, you can also choose between
Sort Ascending and Sort Descending under the View menu.
