Judy Yeo, Wyoming State Library development officer, received the John G. Lorenze Award from the National Commission on Libraries and Information Science for her library survey data work.

The University of Iowa School of Library and Information Science received a $60,000 grant from Rockwell International to develop a new, high-tech search engine for the web. It will respond more effectively over time, adapting based on users' feedback.

Wayne Peay, director of Eccles Health Sciences Library, University of Utah, was recognized with the Utah Library Association Distinguished Service Award at the 1999 annual conference.

Pikes Peak (Colorado) Library District received a $100,000 grant from the Colorado History Fund to restore 12-foot high windows encircling the 1905 Carnegie building in Colorado Springs.

James Swan, director of the Central Kansas Library System, has published a new book, The Librarian's Guide to Genealogical Research.

The Wyoming Center for the Book received a $10,000 grant from the Jeld-Wen Foundation to buy books for young readers. The center distributed the money among all of Wyoming's 23 county libraries.

Johnson County (Kansas) Library is a finalist in the Innovations in American Government Awards, sponsored by the Ford Foundation, Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and the Council for Excellence in Government, for its Books to Grow program.
