Cygnus MOD, a tool for the management and delivery of multimedia content, was
demonstrated for BCR's Research & Development staff recently. Living Stone
Technology, Inc. (LSTI) is now making the system available to BCR member libraries
on a trial basis.
By allowing multimedia content to be accessed from remote locations, Cygnus MOD
enables librarians to better manage multimedia archives and special collections of
digitized audio, video, slides, manuscripts, rare books and paintings -- any collection
containing rare, one-of-a-kind objects that would usually require restricted access.
System features include an efficient, easy-to-use management console for managing,
tracking and controlling access to large volumes of data. Rights manage- ment, license
count and MARC import capabilities make the system ideally suited to libraries.
One Cygnus server supports 40 concurrent high-quality video streams over an intranet
and can support Internet access to media as well. The system server runs on Windows
NT, while the client software runs on Windows 95/98.
LSTI is making the system available on a trial basis to qualifying school and library
pilot projects. For more information, contact LSTI's Tom Edelinksi -- (408) 942-0689
or send e-mail to sales@lsti.com. Please include a description of your project.
