Britannica Online Renewal a Success
Renewal orders for Britannica Online for the 2000-2001 subscription year far outpaced those of previous years despite the introduction of the free Britannica Web site, britannica.com, this past year. More than 140 libraries participated in the BCR group purchase which represents 1,125,035 raw patron FTEs (full time equivalent). The current price (June 2000-May 2001) is $0.345 per FTE student. Anyone wanting to take advantage of this low pricing may subscribe between now and the renewal period next spring by going to BCR's Web site (www.bcr.org/), clicking on Reference Databases and then on Britannica.

Grolier's Cumbre Available as Stand-alone
Grolier is now making stand-alone subscriptions available to its Spanish language encyclopedia, "Cumbre en linea," for colleges and universities only. The price per FTE is $0.207, with a $170 minimum per institution.

A price increase of 3 percent on Grolier products went into effect July 1. This price hike, however, does not apply to BCR consortium purchases. Libraries that want to subscribe to Grolier may still do so at the BCR consortium pricing. A complete breakdown of pricing information is available at www.bcr.org/~ids/Reference/Grolier/grol-Price.html.

Final Pricing Set for Reference Database Products
Prices for the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) and American National Biography (ANB) have been set by Oxford University Press (OUP) as follows:

  • Oxford English Dictionary — $0.176 per FTE patron
  • American National Biography — $0.129 FTE patron

A $100 annual administrative fee is assessed on all orders. You can still order the OUP products at this low price by going to BCR's Web site, clicking on Reference Databases and then Oxford University Press.

Pricing for BCR's Universe products group subscription is expected to be set by the end of July. For the most current information, go the the BCR Web site, click on Reference Databases, then on CIS.

AccessScience@McGrawHill.com has set pricing for FY 2000-2001 at $0.27 per FTE patron. Subscribers must sign up for a minimum order of $200 per year. The BCR group subscription period runs from July 1 through June 30; however, libraries interested in subscribing may request a free trial at any time. For more information on pricing, payments and other questions, go to BCR's Web site (www.bcr.org/), click on Reference Databases, then on AccessScience@McGraw-Hill.
