Electronic Books Unavailable for ILL
By Ann Morrow Schwab
Just a friendly reminder to all OCLC ILL users to carefully check WorldCat records
before requesting items. Several lenders in the BCR region are starting to see an increase
in the number of requests for electronic books that cannot be loaned.
Here are tips on selecting records for ILL purposes:
- Check the following fields to verify your citation:
1XX - Author
245 - Title
250 - Edition
260 - Publication, distribution, etc. (Imprint)
-
Check the holdings information. If the message "No holdings in xxx - 1 other
holding" appears, it's likely that only the inputting library owns the item. You
may want to choose another record.
-
Check for a 533 field indicating that the item is an electronic reproduction. This
note will often explain lending or access restrictions.
-
Check for an 856 field indicating electronic location and access. Items with 856
fields most likely cannnot be loaned.
