New Basic Serials Cataloging
Workshop Coming to Colorado
(February 2000 Action for Libraries newsletter)

By Regan W. Harper

BCR is pleased to add a new serials cataloging workshop to the spring schedule. "Basic Serials Cataloging" is a two-day workshop covering the basic principles of serials cataloging for original and copy cataloging for both print and electronic serials.

The course focuses on the elements contained in the CONSER core record, as well as problem-solving and decision-making relative to serials cataloging. All materials are based on the CONSER Editing Guide and CONSER Cataloging Manual. The workshop is offered in cooperation with the Serials Cataloging Cooperative Training Program (SCCTP).

Under the auspices of the CONSER Program, the SCCTP provides authoritative training materials and trained serials experts to enable broad-ranging education in the field of serials cataloging. The course is designed for those new to serials: beginning serials catalogers and technicians and monograph catalogers who work with serials.

There will be two instructors for the workshop: Margaret Mering, principal serials cataloger at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and Patricia French, serials cataloger at the University of California at Davis.

"Basic Serials Cataloging" will be offered at the BCR Aurora office on April 13-14. The cost for the two-day workshop is $200 with early registration, $225 for those who register after March 30. A limited number of spaces are available, so do not wait until the last minute to register.

For more information about the workshop, contact Regan W. Harper (rharper@bcr.org). To register for the workshop, contact Bobbi Navarro (bnavarro@bcr.org).

The "Basic Serials Cataloging" course is just one of the series of cataloging workshops being added to BCR's spring schedule. See the other cataloging workshops on BCR's Web site at www.bcr.org/~bss/cat-tech.htm.
