New Libraries
- Utah -- Rural Kanab has a new building which replaces a Depression-era WPA
Project damaged in a 1992 earthquake. Riverton Branch, Salt Lake County
Library System, replaces a much smaller building.
- Colorado -- The Archbishop Vehr Theological Library is the library of the
newly formed St. John Vianney Theological Seminary of the Archdiocese of
Denver. Pikes Peak Library District announced its plans to restore its 1905
downtown Carnegie Library building.
- Wyoming -- Goshen County Library in Torrington celebrated completed
renovations earlier this year.

Colorado State Library.
- Wyoming -- Carma Shoop, Weston County Library. Bill Nelson, Natrona County
Public Library. Ieleen Gregory, Uinta County Library.
- Utah -- Bonnie Mellor, Summit County Library. Jackie Brown, Ephraim Public
Library.
A number of BCR member libraries were recognized by Hennen's American Public
Library Rating Index among the best libraries in the nation in their size categories. From
Colorado: Denver Public Library and Boulder Public Library. From Iowa: Iowa City
Public Library, Union Public Library, Boyden Public Library, Whiting Public
Library, Lynnville Public Library and Coin Public Library. From Kansas: Johnson
County Library and Hays Public Library. From Utah: Salt Lake County Library
System.
Nevada State Librarian Monteria Hightower was honored by the ALA Black Caucus
for Distinguished Service to the Library Profession.
Dawn Greenwood, Sidney (Montana) school librarian, received the Montana Reading
Council's Teacher of the Year award.
Gretchen Hamlett, reference librarian at Delta (Colorado) Public Library, was one of
four $500-prize winners in the OCLC ILL essay contest, "What the OCLC ILL Service
Means to Me."
PC Weekly has named the Utah System of Higher Education, which created and put on
the web PIONEER: Utah's Online Library, the number one education technology
innovator in the nation.
Kansas State Librarian Duane Johnson was honored by the Association of Library
Trustees and Advocates for his role in launching the new Kansas Library Trustee
Association. He is president of the BCR Board of Trustees.
Rick Forsman, director of Denison Library, University of Colorado Health Sciences
Center, has been named one of five MLA fellows by the Medical Library Association.
