WebClarity Is Web Gateway to Z39.50 Databases

Just released by Sea Change Corporations, the creators of BookWhere, WebClarity provides a Web gateway to information databases. It provides Web access to any Internet-based information database that supports the Z39.50 access standard, say Sea Change officials. WebClarity allows users to search numerous large databases or virtual union catalogs simultaneously.

Although many libraries publish their holdings using Z39.50, few library Web sites provide access to other Web-based database resources. WebClarity claims to eliminate this limitation by providing seamless, integrated access to both local and remote resources. Nothing needs to be installed on the user's computer. WebClarity software is installed on the institution's server and then accessed by the user via the Web.

WebClarity runs in the Windows NT environment and features the same innovative user interface and powerful search capabilities as BookWhere 2000. WebClarity servers can be configured to reflect a user's specific environment and access requirements.

A demonstration system is available at www.web-clarity.com. For more information on WebClarity, please contact BCR's Laura Chittivej at lchittiv@bcr.org.
