BCR Planning for Nevada, Iowa
and MPLA Library Conferences
BCR is preparing for this fall's remaining annual library conferences. BCR staff members
will attend the Nevada Library Association (NLA), Iowa Library Association (ILA) and the
Mountain Plains Library Association (MPLA) annual conferences in October.
Members of NLA will gather at the Reno Convention Center October 5-7. Ellen Fox, project
manager of Research & Development, will represent BCR. She will present a preconference
program, "What's New in Internet Reference," from 1-4 p.m. on Wednesday,
October 4. The "BCR Network Update" is scheduled for Thursday, October 5, from 1:30-3
p.m. Librarians will learn the latest about OCLC and its new FirstSearch service; other online
reference services such as SilverPlatter and Britannica, as well as new services available,
including AccessScience@McGrawHill.com and OED Online, the Web-based version of the
Oxford English Dictionary.
Iowa librarians will meet October 18-20 in Ames. Look for BCR Executive Director
Dave Brunell and Mike Wright, BCR member services librarian, at the conference. The
two will present the program, "The Evolving Nature of Consortia," Friday, October 20,
from 11:35 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. The program will look at the latest trends in network
services and provide some guidance on using consortia arrangements to save money and
gain better access to new electronic information resources.
BCR's Rosario Garza, manager of Bibliographic Systems & Services, will represent
BCR at MPLA in Omaha, Nebraska, October 25-28.
BCR will have an exhibit booth at all three library
conferences. Stop by and pick up your BCR Patron Card, your ticket for competing in
BCR's Computype-sponsored drawing for several valuable prizes. Chat with BCR staff,
ask questions and learn about the many services BCR has to assist libraries.
