- Wyoming — Platte County Library System is opening the Chugwater Branch
Library in an old building donated by St. Theresa's Church. Burns Branch
Library, (Laramie County) opened its new building in November 2000.
- Iowa — A grand opening was held for the Farmersburg Library in June. LeClaire
Public Library is newly established.

Lesley Boughton, Wyoming state librarian, was honored by the U.S. Small Business
Administration.
James Williams, dean of the University of Colorado at Boulder libraries, was appointed
to the PubMed Central National Advisory Committee of the National Institute of Health.
John Agada, Emporia State University (Kansas) School of Library and Information
Management, received a $150,000 grant from the U.S. Department of State to establish
an affiliation program between SLIM and Nigerian library schools.
