Resource Sharing Opportunities
Available for BCR Members

By Ann Morrow Schwab

A key part of BCR's mission is to encourage resource sharing by the library community. Several BCR services have been established to facilitate interlibrary loan and related services by BCR member libraries.

BCR Interlibrary Loan Code
The BCR Interlibrary Loan Code promotes inexpensive resource sharing among libraries in the BCR region. The code provides guidelines for borrowing and lending between code signers. Code signers agree to lend books and provide up to 30 pages of photocopying for free.

A copy of the BCR Interlibrary Loan Code, along with a list of code signers and a sign- up sheet, is available at www.bcr.org/~bss/reccode.html. There is no charge to sign the code agreement.

Amigos/BCR Reciprocal ILL Agreement
The Amigos/BCR Reciprocal Interlibrary Loan Agreement promotes cost-effective resource sharing among libraries in both the Amigos and BCR regions. Amigos, our library network neighbor to the south, serves more than 650 libraries in Arizona, Arkansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. More than 400 member libraries from both networks benefit from participation in this joint-network agreement.

Libraries that participate in the Amigos/BCR Reciprocal Interlibrary Loan Agreement consent to follow the agreement/code of the participating lending libraries when borrowing between the two networks. A copy of the Amigos Resource Sharing Agreement is found at www.amigos.org/interlibraryloan/sharing.html.

In order to sign the Amigos/BCR Reciprocal Interlibrary Loan Agreement, BCR libraries must first sign the BCR Interlibrary Loan Code. There is no charge to sign either agreement. To read the Amigos/BCR Reciprocal Interlibrary Loan Agreement, visit www.amigos.org/interlibraryloan/loan.html. A list of signers is available at www.amigos.org/interlibraryloan/abcr.html.

Document Delivery
Save time and money by using your BCR membership to obtain document delivery services from the following vendors. Three of the four offer discounts. All four offer the conveniences of BCR billing and payment through your library's BCR deposit account.

  • Infotrieve (BCR's Preferred Document Delivery Service)
Using the "blocks of docs" purchasing system, you can predict your library's costs and benefit from low, fixed copyright charges per document. Infotrieve offers full-service document retrieval and delivery services, current awareness alerts, databases on the Web and a variety of tools to simplify the process of identifying and retrieving published literature. For more information and an enrollment form, visit www.bcr.org/~randd/Infotrieve/infotrieveFAQ.html.

  • British Library Document Supply Centre (BLDSC)
BCR member libraries receive a 5 percent discount on documents and services provided by the British Library Document Supply Centre (BLDSC). Eliminate difficulties in establishing foreign accounts and paying in foreign currency. For more information, go to www.bcr.org/~bss/bldsc.html.

  • Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (CISTI)
BCR member libraries receive a 7.5 percent discount on documents from the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (CISTI). Its collection includes journals, conference papers, monographs, technical reports and translations in physical and life sciences, engineering, technology and medicine. For more information, see www.bcr.org/~bss/cisti.html.

  • Bell & Howell Information and Learning
Order theses, dissertations and books on demand from Bell & Howell Information and Learning (formerly UMI) via OCLC's ILL service or Bell & Howell Information and Learning's Web site and let BCR handle the billing. For more information, visit www.bcr.org/~bss/bell.html.

Clio Software
BCR member libraries purchase the Clio family of ILL management software through BCR and receive a 5 percent discount. Acquire some modules or all of this set of Windows interlibrary loan management software and be billed through BCR. Additional information and an order form are found at www.bcr.org/~bss/clio.html.

Ariel Software
BCR members now receive a 30 percent discount on the Research Libraries Group's (RLG) Ariel software. Ariel software provides high-resolution document transmission. It can receive electronic delivery documents sent from both library ILL departments and commercial systems. Visit www.bcr.org/~ids/Hardsoft/ArielFAQ1.html for more information.
