William Knott, director of the Jefferson County (Colorado) Public Library and a BCR Board member, received the Colorado Library Association's career achievement award.

Sarah Michalak, director of the University of Utah Marriott Library, was elected to the Association of Research Libraries governing board.

Pretty Prairie Public Library was named Outstanding Small Public Library by the South Central Kansas Library System.

Keck Memorial Library (Iowa) celebrated its 75th anniversary last October.

The publisher of The Pueblo Chiefton donated $4 million to complete the building of a new main library for the Pueblo City-County (Colorado) Library District.

Decorah (Iowa) Public Library was awarded the Community Technology Centers Program Grant (through the U.S. Department of Education) for $264,000.

The Buffalo Bill Historical Center (Wyoming)received a two-year $112,500 grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services to market the center and strengthen its education program.

Betsy Barnett and Pete Conrad, Eads (Colorado) High School Library in the Arkansas Valley Regional Library System, received one of five ICONnect ICPrize for Collaboration through Technology.

Wichita (Kansas) State University Library was bequeathed the first-edition Nazi propaganda collection by the late Henry Amsden.

Denver Public Library and Pikes Peak Library District each were awarded a John Cotton Dana Award from ALA and the H.W. Wilson Company for outstanding achievement in library promotion.

Wichita (Kansas) Public Library received approximately $350,000 from the sale of the Driscoll Piracy Collection by Christie's East in New York City. The collection was bequeathed to the library.

New Libraries

  • Iowa — Clive Public Library held its grand opening in January.
  • Colorado — Nederland Community Library opened in April and has a celebration scheduled in May.
  • Nevada — University of Nevada, Las Vegas, dedicated its new $55.3 million, 302,000 square-foot main library, Lied Library, in January.
