The Kansas Library Network Board has launched a statewide library card.

Jerome (Idaho) Library received nearly $2 million from the estate of an 88-year-old retired teacher.

Wallowa County (Oregon) Library was honored with the 2002 PLA Excellence in Small and/or Rural Public Library Service Award.

Denver (Colorado) Public Library broke ground in February for its African American Research Library, which will focus on the history, literature, art, music, religion and politics of African American people throughout the Rocky Mountain West. It is scheduled to open in the spring of 2003.

Washoe County (Nevada) Library System has three new branch managers: Thom Cummins now manages the downtown library in Reno; Barbara Lentz, the Sparks branch; and Pam Rasmussen, the Mendive branch.

Michelle Swain is the new director of the Arkansas City (Kansas) Public Library.

Linda L. Wolcott is now vice provost for libraries and instructional support at Utah State University.

The Pueblo City Council named the street adjacent to the main library as "Bates Lane" after Chuck Bates, director of the Pueblo (Colorado) Library District.

Iowa State Library is the home of a new Iowa Center for the Book. Iowa State Librarian Mary Wegner is a member of the advisory panel overseeing the center's programs.

Marcellus Turner is the new director of public services at the Jefferson County (Colorado) Public Library.

The Denver (Colorado) Public Library has opened its new Schlessman Family Branch Library.
