Library of Congress Debuts New Web SiteThe Library of Congress launched a new Web site that provides unique data for 49 countries. Dubbed Portals to the World, the project plans to have a Web page for each country in the world by 2003. The service does not intend to rival the CIA World Fact Book, also on the Internet; however, it does have links to the CIA site, says Audrey Fischer, a press officer at the library. Users can access a wide range of information, from current interest rates in Peru to how to register for language courses at Estonia's Tartu University. It also provides various links to the countries' own Web sites, Fischer says. The new Web site can be found at www.loc.gov/rr/international/portals.html.
