Keith Curry Lance, director of library research at the Colorado State Library, was among those invited to speak last month at First Lady Laura Bush's White House Conference on School Libraries.

Patricia Cutright, director of Pierce Library at Eastern Oregon University, was named 2002 Librarian of the Year by the Oregon Library Association.

Maggie Farrell, BCR delegate to OCLC Members Council, has been elected a delegate- at-large to the Members Council Executive Committee for 2002-2003. Farrell also has been named the new dean of libraries at the University of Wyoming. She begins her new job in mid-July.

Gary Colton, Roosevelt Middle School librarian, was honored by the Utah Educational Library Media Association as Utah Library-Media Teacher of the Year.

Candace Morgan, associate director, Fort Vancouver (Washington) Regional Library, was a recipient of the 2002 Freedom to Read Foundation Roll of Honor Award.

Jefferson County (Colorado) Public Library is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

The Hawaii State Library is the host for the new Hawaii Center for the Book, the 43rd state to open a center affiliated with the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.
