OCLC Update
By Rosario Garza
DOCupdate-l to Announce New Documentation
As announced in the June issue of Action for Libraries, OCLC has changed its
documentation distribution policy. To help OCLC members keep up-to-date with the
latest documentation changes, OCLC has set up an electronic list that will announce new
or revised documentation added to OCLC's Web site. You can subscribe to DOCupdate-
l by sending an e-mail message to listserv@oclc.org
with subscribe DOCupdate-l [your
name] in the body of the message. This list will be for announcements only; it is not a
discussion list. Users are encouraged to subscribe to keep up with OCLC documentation
changes.
IFM Reports Enhanced
OCLC has revised the ILL Fee Management (IFM) Monthly Detailed Report. Beginning
with the May IFM reports, a transaction count was added to both the electronic text and
spreadsheet report formats. In each Borrowing & Lending report, in addition to the
"[Symbol] Monthly Total" for fees, OCLC added a "Monthly Count" that totals the
number of transactions with that institution. In addition, a "Grand Total Count" now
appears under the "Grand Total All Institutions" to show the total number of borrowing
or lending transactions represented by the total fees.
In the spreadsheet version, a new final column with the heading "Transaction Count" was
added.
BCR and OCLC staff hope you find this a useful enhancement to your IFM Monthly
detailed report. Remember, if you use the IFM service, this is a no-charge electronic report.
If you aren't signed up to receive the report, contact BCR's Ann Schwab
(aschwab@bcr.org), or refer to Chapter 19 of the OCLC Interlibrary Loan Service User
Guide at
www.oclc.org/oclc/ill/guide/index.htm for instructions.
Referral Capability Added to ILL Web Interface
OCLC has added referral capability to the Web interface to the OCLC Interlibrary Loan
(ILL) service. This new capability allows ILL Referral Agents to use the ILL Web
interface for their referral work. If you haven't taken a look at the ILL Web interface,
you can check it out by going to illweb.oclc.org.
If you have any questions about the ILL Web interface, contact Ann Schwab at BCR.
New Edition of Bib Formats Distributed
Distribution of the print version of Bibliographic Formats and Standards, third edition,
began in late June. The new edition shipped without a binder (unless you ordered a
binder as an additional item). Concise Input Standards, a separate document that
summarizes the input standards, was not shipped with Bib Formats. It will be available
later and must be ordered separately. Bib Formats is also available on the OCLC Web
site in PDF format. The HTML version will be available in July.
