Britannica Launches New Products
for BCR's 2002 Subscription Year
By Laura Chittivej
Current BCR Britannica subscribers and new users may now order an updated Britannica
Online, a new Britannica Online School Edition, Webster's Third New International
Dictionary Unabridged Online and Annals of American History Online for the 2002-
2003 subscription period. Britannica now also provides access to 150 content-
appropriate, full-text journals included at no additional cost with the purchase or the
renewal of either Britannica Online encyclopedia product.
BCR's subscription year is June 1 through May 31. The last day current subscribers can
renew is May 31. Your patrons may suffer an "access hiatus" if their subscribing libraries
fail to renew by that time.
For the coming year Britannica introduces online access to Webster's Third New
International Dictionary Unabridged and Annals of American History. Libraries may
choose to purchase access to the two titles as part of a Britannica subscription or as
stand-alone products. Both current users and new subscribers that purchase any new
product (including Britannica Online School Edition) during April and May will receive
free access until the official start of the subscription on June 1.
If your library is already a Britannica Online subscriber, either directly or through a
group, you may save by moving your contract to the BCR group subscription. Your
library will receive a prorated credit on the unused portion of your existing agreement
towards your participation in the BCR contract.
New Britannica Online School Edition gives teachers and students instant access to three
complete encyclopedias that help ensure consistency with classroom topics and age-
appropriate language. This database also offers high-quality online learning materials
that are developed by teachers and curriculum experts and mapped to national and state
standards.
Webster's Third New International Dictionary Unabridged Online offers all 472,000
entries of this comprehensive American language dictionary. A full range of 13 search
options, more than 140,000 etymological entries and 1,000 color illustrations make this a
valuable resource for all interested in expanding their use of the English language.
Annals of American History Online is an authoritative chronicle of the nation's history
that provides a year- by-year documentary of American thought and action from 1493
through today. Thousands of illustrations, photographs and the original words in
speeches, writings and interviews of more than 1,500 authors bring American history to
life.
