Annual Renewal Period Begins for Grolier Online Products

By Laura Chittivej

BCR's annual subscription renewal to Grolier Online products is at hand. Current subscribers must renew their subscriptions, while new subscribers are invited to take advantage of the March through April free trial.

The BCR consortium subscription cycle for all Grolier products is May 1 through April 30. The last day current subscribers can renew is April 30. Patrons may suffer interrupted access if subscribing libraries fail to renew by that time.

At press time, BCR had not received the pricing for next year, but we have been assured that Grolier prices will rise only a small amount, in line with the Consumer Price Index and less than 4 percent. Nor will the basic price structure change.

All subscribers must renew via the Web order form. The form also functions as a cost calculator without obligating the user to subscribe.

To begin a free trial, a new subscription, transfer a direct account or to renew your existing subscription, go to: www.bcr.org/~ids/Reference/Grolier/Grolier-Menu.html.

Grolier offers two different subscriptions packages plus add-on modules for libraries seeking online products for a diverse population. Subscribers may choose a Combo Package of any two of the three encyclopedias or a Deluxe Package of all three: Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia; Encyclopedia Americana; and New Book of Knowledge. Add-on titles are Cumbre en Línea; Lands and Peoples Online; and Popular Science Online.

  • The New Book of Knowledge Online, in print in the U.S. since 1912, is the first modern encyclopedia for children. It is a source of accurate, fun-to-read information for use in homes and libraries.

  • Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia Online offers a freshly developed general reference database rich in multimedia content suited to users from the upper elementary grades through adults.

  • The Encyclopedia Americana Online, based on the long-standing print product, is geared to the sophisticated research needs of more advanced students.

  • Cumbre en línea, a full-featured, Spanish-language online reference source, is the only Spanish-language encyclopedia built from the ground up with a Latin American perspective.

  • Lands and Peoples Online includes a full complement of maps and flags, 300 four-color photos, approximately 1,000 external Web links, 3,000 internal article-to-article links, complete search and browse options, easy and rapid navigation, help pages and users' guides.

  • New Book of Popular Science Online's 400-plus articles on science, technology and medical topics are highly interactive and continually updated. Online access includes full-color photographs, detailed scientific artwork and technical illustrations, terrestrial and celestial maps and bibliographies.

  • America The Beautiful is a comprehensive program about the states and territories of the U.S. Each of the 50 states, plus Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the major territories, is covered in depth. The Online product features 1,300 articles, 2,750 photographs, 400 maps, 2,500 article-to-article links, 2,300 Internet links and a timeline for each state.
