OCLC Update

By Rosario Garza

New ILLiad Pricing Structure Announced
Effective immediately, OCLC has revised the OCLC ILLiad annual license fee structure. The new license fees are:

0-1,500 ILL borrows $2,000 per year
1,501-5,000 ILL borrows $3,000 per year
5,001-10,000 ILL borrows $4,000 per year
10,001 and greater $5,000 per year

Libraries that have already installed ILLiad will see a reduction in their annual license fees next time they are up for renewal if they previously were in the middle tier. Any library that has ordered ILLiad but has not yet been billed for the installation will be charged at the new rates.

If you are interested in the ILLiad product, contact BCR's Ann Schwab (achwab@bcr.org).

Label Program 1.21 Available
Version 1.21 of the OCLC Cataloging Label Program is now available for electronic download at no charge. This new version resolves problems reported with version 1.20. See the Label Program home page at www.oclc.org/oclc/menu/label.htm for more information and to download the software. This version of the Label Program is not currently available on compact disc. It will, however, be included on version 5.00 of the OCLC Access Suite compact disc being released the second quarter of this calendar year.

If you have questions about the Label Program, contact Regan Harper at (800) 397-1552 or rharper@bcr.org.

Searching WorldCat Tutorial Updated
A new version of Searching WorldCat: An OCLC Tutorial is now available. This free tutorial can help you learn to search WorldCat (the OCLC Online Union Catalog) through OCLC Cataloging, Interlibrary Loan, Selection and Union List services. If you've attended either of BCR's two OCLC searching classes (OCLC Searching Basics or OCLC Searching — Advanced Techniques) you can use the tutorial's hands-on exercises to reinforce what you learned in the classes. The tutorial offers users a self-paced, offline environment. OCLC Searching WorldCat version 1.02 is now available for download at www.oclc.org/oclc/menu/tutorial.htm.

Get ILL Management Statistics via Web Interface
OCLC's ILL Management Statistics service offers subscribers electronic files of their OCLC ILL activity that includes information on the most requested titles borrowed, turnaround time and most frequent lender and borrower partners. Until recently these electronic files could be used only with standard third-party spreadsheet and database software packages such as Microsoft Excel or Access. Now this information is available via a Web interface that gives subscribers an easy-to-use graphical representation of the statistical information gathered by this service.

ILL Management Statistics are available on a subscription basis for $500 per year. Interested libraries can start a subscription via the Name-Address Directory. A word of warning, however — if you unsubscribe before the end of the year, the $500 fee is not refundable.

The Web interface gives users the ability to query their ILL data using either a straight query of the data or by selecting from a set of predefined questions. Users are required to have a valid OCLC ILL authorization number and password to see their library's ILL data. There is no additional charge to use the Web interface.

Users who prefer, may continue to download the electronic file from the Product Services Web.

If you want to subscribe to the ILL Management Statistics, contact BCR's Ann Schwab.

WebDewey/Abridged WebDewey Enhanced
April enhancements to the OCLC CORC service include enhancements to WebDewey and Abridged WebDewey services, including the quarterly updates of new numbers.

Both services have a new option, which allows users to specify their default browse index. The option is accessible by choosing General, Administration, Display/Update WebDewey [Abridged WebDewey].

The WebDewey database now includes all updates to Dewey Decimal Classification, Edition 21, through February 2002 (corrections, new developments, new built numbers and additional electronic index terms). It also includes all LC subject headings editorially mapped to Dewey numbers (LCSH/DDC (EM) from LC Subject Headings Weekly Lists through number 38, 2001. The Abridged WebDewey database includes all updates to Abridged Edition 13 through February 2002 (corrections, new developments, new built numbers and additional electronic index terms). It will include selected editorially mapped LCSH/DDC (EM) from LC Subject Headings Weekly Lists through number 38, 2001.

Libraries wanting to subscribe to either WebDewey or Abridged WebDewey can contact BCR for information, including a free look at WebDewey or Abridged WebDewey for a one-month period.
