BCR and Member State Libraries
Sponsor Teleconferences

The Bibliographical Center for Research (BCR) and the state library agencies of BCR's 12 member states are pleased to announce a cooperative agreement with the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, to offer unlimited downlink site licenses to eight satellite teleconferences. Through this cooperative project, downlink licenses for these teleconferences, broadcast by the College of DuPage, will be available to any library in Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming, as well as to BCR member libraries in non-member states. Site coordinators may register for downlink licenses on BCR's Web site at www.bcr.org/~shoffhin/telecon/register.html.

Library staff and others interested in viewing the programs should visit BCR's teleconference Web site (www.bcr.org/~shoffhin/telecon/) for a listing of locations that will be broadcasting the teleconferences. To find a location near to you, click on your state in the left hand column and then click on the name of the teleconference. Contact the site coordinator directly for further information.

The 2002-2003 season's schedule of satellite teleconferences from the College of DuPage includes:

  • Soaring to Excellence 2003 — This 9th year of the popular Soaring to Excellence series offers three teleconferences that provide information and training to library support staff.
    Dates are:
      November 15, 2002 - "Building Another Bridge: Equal Access to Technology for Special Populations." (Registration for a downlink license through the BCR/State Library agreement for this program ended November 8).
      January 24, 2003 - "Time Management: Getting Things Done."
      March 21, 2003 - "Library Support Staff Soar to Great Heights: How library workers give back."
  • Effective Web Design: A Fresh Look — December 6, 2002. (The deadline to register for a downlink license through BCR is Monday, December 2.)
  • Reference Services: Virtual, Digital and In-Library - a new Model for Effective Delivery — February 7, 2003 and April 11, 2003.
  • Electronic and Networked Information and Databases: Making Choices — Two programs scheduled for May 2 and June 6, 2003.

Detailed program information about all the teleconferences is available on the College of DuPage's Web site at www.cod.edu/teleconf/. All teleconferences will be broadcast from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. EDT.
