Label Printing for CatExpress Members
By Linda Gonzalez
OCLC CatExpress users have gone through quite a bit of change over the past few
months. In late June, CatExpress became part of OCLC Connexion, the new Web-based
interface to OCLC's cataloging services. At that time, the ability to transfer immediately
from WorldCat MARC bibliographic records directly into a CatExpress library's local
bibliographic database became an option. Prior to late June, CatExpress subscribers'
only option for record delivery had been to pick up their files of records from OCLC's
Product Services Web site the day after they had cataloged them. With the new
CatExpress export option, library staff that need their records immediately may now
eliminate that wait.
In late September, OCLC will introduce another new functionality label printing
for CatExpress libraries. Catalogers will be able to generate labels from CatExpress
instead of their local systems, either item-by-item or by groups of items. This change has
the potential to increase efficiency and improve work flow and has been made possible
by CatExpress' integration into OCLC Connexion.
To watch for the announcement when label printing will be available, check BCR's Web
site (www.bcr.org) in late September, subscribe to BCR's listserv, BCR-L, at
www.bcr.org/cgi-bin/MailServ/majordomo or check OCLC's CatExpress service Web
site, www.oclc.org/oclc/cataloging/catexpress/. You may find other information about
CatExpress at this site, as well as links to a CatExpress tutorial, a user guide, "Frequently
Asked Questions" page and ordering information.
