Utah State Librarian Retiring

Amy Owen, Utah's state librarian and director of the Utah State Library Division, has announced that she will retire August 1. Owen has been a member of the BCR Board of Trustees throughout her tenure as state librarian. A nationwide search is planned, with hopes of finding a replacement by June.

Under Owen's leadership, state library staff created the Utah Library Network initiative and helped develop PIONEER: Utah's Online Library. Owen has written and lectured extensively on the impact of networking technology on the future of library services and on public library planning, standards and evaluation. Her honors include: Library Journal "Librarian of the Year" for 1991; Mountain Plains Library Association Distinguished Service Award and two awards from the Utah Library Association, Special Recognition Award for 1991 and 1992 Librarian of the Year.
