Batchload Options for Local Data Records

By Ann Schwab

Do you wish there was an easy way to keep your serials holdings up-to-date in OCLC? Explore the benefits of batchloading your library's serials holdings at little or no cost using OCLC's local data record (LDR) batch processing option.

LDR information is now included under the Local Holdings heading for serial records found in WorldCat on FirstSearch, as well as in all Pending requests in OCLC ILL. Current and accurate LDRs can help increase ILL efficiency.

You can update your LDRs through batch processing at no charge through June 2003 if your data is compliant with the MARC 21 Format for Holdings Data (MFHD). There is a nominal fee for patterned data submitted in non-MARC formats. You may submit files on a regular schedule or update with a one-time batch project and then maintain LDRs online through the OCLC Union List service. For detailed information about record requirements, procedures for initiating projects and procedures for submitting files, visit www.oclc.org/batchprocessing/localdatarecords/guidelines.shtm.

If you have any questions about OCLC LDR batch processing, contact BCR's Ann Schwab at aschwab@bcr.org.
