Grove Issues Update for Grovemusic.com
Several new features and enhancements were added to the grovemusic.com Web site at the
end of 2002, making it easier to use. Subscribers will find new content, technical features
and navigation enhancements. They include:
- Twenty-two new articles on contemporary performers and 140 updated and
expanded works lists.
- Sound illustrations are provided to more than 500 musical examples using
Sibelius music software.
- More than 100 articles were revised adding information such as death dates,
recent achievements, results of recent research and new bibliography.
- Significantly revised articles are now stamped with the date of the revision and
revision type.
- Citation information helps users cite Grove Online.
- Search capabilities were improved with two new types of searching added, search
works lists and search within article.
- Authors' names now appear at the bottom of the
table of contents in the sidebar of the article.
- A new index, Explore, available both separately
and as a related articles feature, is now available in every article.
- Guide to Sibelius organizes the site's 500 Sibelius- enabled examples in a simple
A-Z list and divides them into broad conceptual groups.
More in-depth information on these enhancements is available at www.macmillanonline.net/music/
marketing/index.htm. For pricing and to subscribe, contact Karen Graham at BCR

OCLC Updates ArticleFirst on WorldCat
ArticleFirst content information is now available from OCLC WorldCat serials records.
Users of WorldCat on FirstSearch, who also have access to OCLC ArticleFirst, will be
able to click on a record for a serial title in WorldCat and browse detailed contents
information for the corresponding title in the ArticleFirst database. Libraries that have
access to journals in Electronic Collections Online (ECO) or that have turned on access
to any of the other sources of linked, full-text articles in FirstSearch databases
(ABI/INFORM, Periodical Abstracts, PyscArticles, Wilson Select and Wilson Select
Plus) will see links to full text in these journals or databases from the ArticleFirst records
they now will access through WorldCat.
OCLC Adds Spellchecker to WorldCat on FirstSearch
A spellchecker function has been added to WorldCat on FirstSearch that offers
suggestions after a search results in zero or a low number of records. The suggested
term(s) come from WorldCat indexes, increasing the likelihood of successful and
relevant results and saving users both time and effort.
OCLC Partners with Alternative Press Center
OCLC and the Alternative Press Center (APC), an OCLC member library, have joined to
convert the paper backfiles of the APC from 1969-1990 to digital form and to archive them
for the library community. The Alternative Press Index Archive, offered exclusively via
FirstSearch, will complement the Alternative Press Index database, also available via
FirstSearch, which covers the years 1991 to present. Both are international, interdisciplinary
and include popular and scholarly magazines and journals in numerous subject areas.
