Numerous BCR member libraries were named among the top 10 libraries in the country in their population categories in Hennen's American Public Library Ratings for 2002. Colorado libraries: Denver Public Library, Silverton Public Library. Idaho libraries: McCall Public Library. Iowa libraries: Ames Public Library, Bettendorf Public Library Information Center, Cresco Public Library, North Liberty Community Library, Lynnville Public Library. Kansas libraries: Overland Park/Johnson County Library, Elkhart/Morton County Library, Sabetha/Mary Cotton Public Library. Oregon libraries: Multnomah County Library, Corvallis-Benton County Public Library. Utah libraries: Salt Lake County Library System, Salt Lake City Public Library.

Jan Walsh has been appointed Washington State Librarian after serving six months as acting state librarian for the state agency.
