Serials Solutions Expands Services
While Offering BCR Libraries Discounts

By Rosario Garza

BCR member libraries using Serials Solutions services will want to investigate two new linking services from this company - Journal Linker and Article Linker. Both services will provide new options for linking among a library's electronic resources. Journal Linker is available now. Article Linker is scheduled to be released in early 2003.

Journal Linker enables your patrons to link from an abstract or index to a list of all the library's full-text holdings for that journal. From there, patrons can link to the full text in any of the library's electronic resources. In addition, Journal Linker will display local print and microform collections and will link to the journal's MARC record in most OPACs.

Journal Linker is now available to all libraries. This linking service is provided free with a subscription to Serials Solutions' A-to-Z title lists or full MARC records. Journal Linker can be used to link to most major content providers, including ProQuest, Gale, EBSCO and OCLC. Links will take patrons as close to the journal level as the content providers' technology will allow.

Journal Linker employs functionality that is standard with most content providers. This functionality is combined with the underlying data supplied within Serials Solutions' A- to-Z reports to provide patrons information that is accurate and up-to-date.

For library staff interested in a full-featured OpenURL resolver (creating dynamic links between one article and another via metadata), Serials Solutions will soon be releasing Article Linker. Article Linker will accept OpenURLs and provide article-level links and extended services such as links to interlibrary loan services. Both of these new services take advantage of Serials Solutions' current holdings data, hosting services and customer support.
