Two netLibrary Collections Give
Member Libraries More Resources
By Laura Chittivej
BCR members facing tighter budgets this year may want to explore participating in one
or both of the available BCR netLibrary offerings. Combined, the BCR Ready Reference
Collection and BCR Shared Collection Set II offer access to more than 4,887 e-books.
BCR is expanding the netLibrary Ready Reference Collection by 410 new titles. Ready
Reference Collection group participants do not pay any additional fees to access these
new titles. Free OCLC MARC records are also available to participating libraries.
The BCR Ready Reference Collection (formerly the BCR netLibrary Public Library
Collection) is comprised of 3,040 reference titles plus 380 CliffsNotes
titles. The CliffsNotes titles are unique since four simultaneous users are allowed access
versus the usual netLibrary one-book, one-user model.
BCR Shared Collection Set II is the most recent offering assembled by BCR and
netLibrary. Academic libraries will find a variety of useful titles in the 1,057 e-books
that make up the set. Participants are required to sign a netLibrary license agreement
prior to obtaining access to the set. A WorldCat collection set has been created, so free
OCLC MARC records are also available to libraries that participate in this program.
Libraries should go to www.bcr.org/~ids/Reference/Netlibrary/NL-Menu.html
for more detailed information about either collection.
