Oxford Reference Online Enhancements
Oxford University Press (OUP) is continuing to enhance The Oxford Online: Core Collection, to ensure
users are getting access to the most up-to-date ready-reference resources available. The latest additions to
the database include:
- Dynasties of the World - This online edition covers five millennia of royalty from the first king of
Egypt to the present king of Jordan. See
www.oxfordreference.com/views/BOOK_SEARCH.html?book=t130 for details.
- Pocket Oxford Latin Dictionary - With more than 60,000 entries, this practical dictionary is
designed specifically to meet the needs of students in their first years of studying Latin, as well as
those with an interest in the Latin language or the classical world. See
www.oxfordreference.com/views/BOOK_SEARCH.html?book=t131b.
- Oxford Concise Dictionary of Quotations - This newly revised fourth edition replaces the
previously available Oxford Essential Quotations Dictionary and provides extensive coverage of
literary and historical quotations and new material on slogans, catch phrases, film lines and
popular misquotations. See
www.oxfordreference.com/views/BOOK_SEARCH.html?book=t91&subject=s21.
In addition, several reference books have been revised and updated:
- The World Encyclopedia Major's annual update includes revisions to reflect events and issues
from the previous 12 months.
- The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Politics has been brought up to date with new and revised
entries on the people, places and events that have shaped the political world since publication of
the first edition in 1996.
- A Dictionary of Astronomy now includes entries on current space exploration, astrophysics and
cosmology.

OCLC PAIS Special Offer Extended
The OCLC PAIS Archive database can now be purchased through March 1, 2004, at substantial savings.
Advance subscribers will receive a discount of $1,000 off the $6,000 one-time subscription fee. Orders
must be received prior to March 1. The PAIS Archive is a retrospective database with electronic versions
of records previously available only in the 62 annually cumulated print editions of the PAIS Bulletin,
1915-1976. The PAIS Archive will be released on FirstSearch in phases, the first beginning with years
1957-1976 in spring 2004. The full file is projected to be available by mid-2004.
The PAIS Archive is planned as a complement to the PAIS International database, which covers the years
1972-present and is also available via FirstSearch.
