BCR Web Feature: OCLC Services
Cost Estimate Form Available Online

By Rosario Garza

If you don't get your library's OCLC cataloging and interlibrary loan services through BCR, but are interested in finding out what your library's costs would be if you did, BCR has an online "cost estimate calculator" available. BCR's Cataloging & Interlibrary Loan Cost Estimate form asks for information about your library, including institution, address, contact information and phone number. Here's some information to help you complete the form.

If you already are an OCLC user, you can skip the "One Time Costs" section. The "Ongoing Yearly Costs" section refers to your typical new acquisitions cataloging and interlibrary loan requests sent through OCLC. As you fill in the "Estimated Number of Titles" boxes, the estimated costs column will automatically be filled in. Be sure to use your keyboard's TAB key to move from one box to another.

Once you have tabbed through all the boxes, your estimated yearly cost will be calculated. You can print the form out at this point. A word of caution: if you are currently using OCLC services such as PromptCat or BibNotification, the costs of those services will not be included in BCR's cost estimate. Please note those services in the Comments box section of the form, so that a BCR staff member can contact you about those costs once you hit the Submit button.

While submitting the online form to BCR is not a requirement, it is an option. If you submit the form, a BCR staff member will contact you to see if you have any questions about the cost estimate itself or about our services. If you have included comments concerning services such as PromptCat, BCR will contact you about the pricing for those services.

The cost estimate form is available at www.bcr.org/training/online/intro/quoteform.html. If you have any questions about either the form or BCR's OCLC services, contact Regan Harper (rharper@bcr.org) or Rosario Garza (rgarza@bcr.org).
