BCR Staff Preparing
for Fall Library Conferences

BCR staff members are looking forward to attending the state library association conferences scheduled this fall throughout the BCR region. Conferences are scheduled in October in Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado and Iowa.

Idaho
Dave Brunell, BCR executive director, will represent BCR at the Idaho Library Association annual conference scheduled October 1-4 at Post Falls. He will present the program "Electronic Ready Reference: Making Effective Use of a Powerful Resource" on Thursday, October 2, from 1:30-3 p.m. Brunell will talk about estimating the cost-effectiveness of full-text electronic reference materials, such as those available through netLibrary and Books24x7.

Wyoming
The Wyoming Library Association annual conference is October 1-4 in Sheridan. BCR's Ann Schwab, member services librarian, will attend. She will participate in two programs this year. Schwab will present "MARC Madness" on Friday, October 3, from 3-4 p.m. The program provides a brief introduction to the "method behind the madness" of the MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data. Participants will learn how the MARC format is used to create useful online catalogs for patrons and staff. Schwab will follow with the "BCR Network Update" from 4-4:45 p.m. Those attending will gain a more complete understanding of the services BCR provides to libraries, from training to product discounts to OCLC services.

Colorado
Sharon Hoffhines, BCR communications coordinator, will join Executive Director Dave Brunell at the Colorado Association of Libraries annual conference October 15-19 at Keystone. Brunell will present "The Library as a Place in Cyberspace" from 2:15-3:15 p.m. on Friday, October 17. During the program he will discuss some of the style guidelines, usability studies and services librarians are using to reproduce the look and feel of their local library on their Web sites.

Iowa
The Iowa Library Association annual conference is being held in Cedar Rapids on October 15-17. Regan Harper, project manager for BCR's Member Services, will present two programs on Friday, October 17. She will talk about the "OCLC Connexion Client: What Libraries Have Been Waiting For" at 10:30 a.m. Harper will follow with this year's "BCR Network Update" at 11:30 a.m.

Exhibit Booth
BCR will have an exhibit booth at each of the library conferences. Please stop by to ask questions, learn about the many services BCR has available to assist libraries or just to chat and get better acquainted. We hope to see you.
