Member NewsLas Vegas-Clark County Library District has been named Gale Library Journal Library of the Year for 2003. The Utah Library Association honored Amy Owen, Utah state librarian, who retired the end of June, with its Distinguished Service award for her 35 years of service to Utah's libraries. Owens served on the BCR Board of Trustees during her tenure as Utah state librarian. ULA named Nancy Tessman, director of the Salt Lake Public Library, Librarian of the Year for 2003. Western Council of State Libraries, of which BCR is the fiscal agent, has received a three-year grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to develop a model library education continuum that will provide training opportunities, enhance employment opportunities and establish credentialing recognized across state lines. Tiki Levinson, Bristol Bay (Alaska) School District librarian, was honored by the Alaska Association of School Librarians with the 2003 Linda K. Barrett Service Award. Lois Petersen, Bering Strait School District media specialist, received the AkASL 2003 School Librarian of the Year Award. The Kansas Library Association gave its 2003 Library Personnel Award to two individuals: Leroy Gattin, Hutchinson Public Library/South Central Kansas Library System and KLA executive secretary, and John Stratton, Regents Center Library, Edwards Campus. Gattin is a former member of the BCR Board of Trustees. Cherry Creek (Colorado) High School was presented the School Library Media Program of the Year Award as the 2003 outstanding single school library program in the nation by the American Association of School Librarians.
