Britannica Renewal Highlighted
By New Add-on Database
By Laura Chittivej
BCR Britannica subscribers may now renew access for 2004-2005. BCR, with the
cooperation of Britannica, will maintain pricing for all add-on databases at the current
levels. The only price increases will be in FTE and minimum pricing for Britannica
Online and Britannica Online School Edition. BCR members who currently do not
subscribe to Britannica are encouraged to subscribe during the renewal period, too.
Libraries may choose to purchase access to the databases as part of a Britannica Online
or Britannica Online School Edition subscription or as stand-alone products.
The BCR Britannica group subscription renewal period coincides with the rollout of
Britannica's newest database, Original Sources. This database provides access to the
creations and discoveries of some of the greatest minds recorded in their original words
and works. Original Sources' library of primary sources is divided into eight major
collections: World History, U.S. History, Science and Mathematics, Social Science,
Literature, Political Science and Law, Language and Philosophy and Religion.
BCR Britannica group subscription access to Original Sources is available to university,
colleges, corporate and government libraries. Pricing is based on total student population
for educational institutions and on total number of employees with Internet access for
government and corporate organizations.
BCR's Britannica group subscription year is June 1 through May 31. Current BCR
Britannica group subscribing libraries should plan to renew their subscriptions before the
May 31 deadline, as timely renewal of orders will ensure uninterrupted access for users.
If your library is already a Britannica Online subscriber, either directly or through a
group, you may move your contract to the BCR group subscription. Your library will
receive a prorated credit on the unused portion of your existing agreement towards your
participation in the BCR group subscription.
A free two-month trial of all Britannica databases is also available. The trial runs from
April 1 through May 31. All BCR member libraries are invited to explore Britannica
Online, Britannica Online School Edition, Webster's Third New International Dictionary
Unabridged Online, Annals of American History Online, Enciclopedia Universal en
Español — a Spanish-language encyclopedia — and World Data Analyst Online.
To renew your current Britannica subscription or obtain a free trial of Original Sources
and/or other Britannica databases, please go to
