BCR's Sauers Co-authors Directory

Michael Sauers, BCR Internet trainer, has joined with Louise Alcorn, reference technology librarian at the West Des Moines Public Library, to co-author a new book, The Neal-Schuman Directory of Management Software for Public Access Computers.

The directory looks at more than 40 types of management software that deal with problems associated with publicly accessible computers. Software that provides system recovery, application launchers, timers and session monitors, print managers, security programs, privacy protection and special browsers/kiosks are covered as they apply to public access computers. Sauers and Alcorn obtained copies of the various pieces of software and tested them in library settings. The duo also talked with librarians across the country who have used the software and garnered their opinions. They then rated the software with 1-to-5 stars for overall performance, ease of setup, configuration, customization and user interface.
