Robert A. Walter, dean of the Leonard H. Axe Library, Pittsburg State University (Kansas), received the 2004 James Bennett Childs Award from the ALA Government Documents Round Table. Walter is a former member of the BCR Board of Trustees.

Lois Lenski Elementary School Library (Colorado) is one of two Single School Category winners of the 2004 National School Library Media Program of the Year Award presented by ALA's American Association of School Librarians (AASL).

The Colorado Association of School Libraries won AASL's 2004 ABC-CLIO Leadership Grant.
