Kansas, Oregon, Montana Library
Conferences Next on BCR Agenda

Librarians in Kansas, Oregon and Montana are invited to programs presented by various BCR staff members at those states' annual library conferences scheduled in April. Members of the BCR team also will staff a booth in the exhibit areas at each conference. So stop by to say "hello" and to pick up information on new products and services that might be of interest to your library.

The Kansas Library Tri-Conference, a joint conference of the Kansas Library Association (KLA), Kansas Association of School Librarians (KASL) and Kansas Association for Educational Communications and Technology (KAECT), will convene March 31 through April 2 this year in Wichita. Conference goers are urged to attend the program, "Building a User-friendly Web Site," to be presented by Ellen Fox, BCR manager of Research & Development, on Wednesday, March 31, from 4-5 p.m. Fox will provide practical advice for making a library's Web site easy to use and friendlier for patrons.

BCR is taking on a bigger role at the Oregon Library Association annual conference April 14-16 in Eugene. BCR is sponsoring the day-long preconference, "Understanding and Using Library of Congress Classification," on Wednesday, April 14. Mary Kay Pietris, senior cataloging policy specialist at the Library of Congress, will present this 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. program for those who want a fundamental understanding of the basic concepts underlying LC Classification. Then BCR's Rosario Garza, assistant director for Member Services, will speak on "Dewey Decimal Classification 22: Update," on Thursday, April 15, from 4-5:30 p.m.

BCR staff also are taking on a large role at the Montana Library Association annual conference in Bozeman April 24-27. Dave Brunell, BCR executive director, will present his popular program, "The Library as a Place in Cyberspace: Reproducing the look and feel of the local library online." Ann Schwab, trainer and BCR Member Services librarian, will talk about "OCLC ILL and Custom Holdings" for the MLA ILL interest group. Dates and times for the sessions had not been set at the time this newsletter went to press. BCR also is sponsoring the conference's keynote speaker, Greg Mortenson, director of the Central Asia Institute, and a joint reception with the Montana Library Commission.

BCR is proud to support the libraries in our member states. We look forward to seeing and talking with all who attend these valuable annual state library conferences.
