BCR to Maintain Grolier
Pricing for 2004 Subscription Year
By Laura Chittivej
The BCR Grolier group subscription renewal cycle for 2004-2005 is at hand. To
accommodate limited library budgets, BCR and Grolier are maintaining the current FTE
pricing on all Grolier Online databases. The only increases implemented for the
upcoming year are in the base/minimum price associated with each Grolier Online
database. Grolier also released two new databases in the last quarter of 2003,
Encyclopedia of American Studies and Columbia American History Online.
The BCR group subscription cycle for all Grolier products is May 1 through April 30.
The last day current subscribers can renew without the possibility of having their access
to the databases interrupted, is April 30. New subscribers are invited to take advantage
of the March through April free trial.
To begin a free trial, a new subscription, transfer a direct account or renew your existing
subscription, go to:
www.bcr.org/reference/Grolier/grol-Menu.html. The online form
also functions as a cost calculator, allowing libraries to try out different database
purchasing plans, without any subscription obligation.
Grolier offers two subscription packages plus add-on modules for libraries seeking online
products for a diverse population. Subscribers may choose a Combo Package of any two
of the three encyclopedias or a Deluxe Package of all three: Grolier Multimedia
Encyclopedia, Encyclopedia Americana and New Book of Knowledge. Add-on titles are
Cumbre en l¡nea, Lands and Peoples Online and Popular Science Online, in addition to
the two new databases mentioned above.
